Head . . . .   Ears . . . .  Eyes . . . .

The majority of the points on an American Curl are from the neck up.  Whichever Standard you are looking at, the head, ears, & eyes constitute between 55 - 70 of the total points given for this breed.

That's the majority of the cat.  It is very important for breeders to learn what they should look for to show and/or for breeding.  The highest individual  point category for a Curl for CFA, ACFA and FIFE is the ears with 30 points each association.  The highest point category for TICA is the body with is 30 points, whereas the ears account for only 20 points.

The second highest category for CFA, ACFA and FIFE is the body with 25 total points. Third total points goes to the head.   The breakdown for points for the head for each association is shown below.

When a curl is  competing with breeds that have perfected their breed, the competition at shows can be wicked. Hopefully, the following pages will illustrate what to look for on the head.

The CFA and ACFA Standards both attribute 60 points to the head, ears and eyes.

Head: (total 20 points)
 shape & size = 6 points
 profile = 6 points
 muzzle =4 points
 chin = 2 points
Ears: (total 30 points)
 degree of curl = 10 points
 shape & size = 10 points
 placement - 8 points
 furnishings = 2 points
Eyes: (total 10 points)
 shape & size = 6 points
 placement = 3 points
 color = 1 point

TOTAL 60 points
The TICA Standard differences are shown below:

The Head is given a total of 40 points and includes:
Shape of the Head = 6 points
Ears = 20 points
Eyes = 5 points
Chin = 2 points
Muzzle = 2 points
Profile = 5 points

TOTAL 40 points
The FIFE Standard attributes 55 points to the head, ears and eyes, with slight differences from CFA and ACFA.

Head (total 30 points)
 shape, size, profile & chin = 15 points
 muzzle = 5 points
Ears (total 30 points)
 degree of curl = 10 points
 shape & size and furnishings = 10  points

It''s  All  About  the  Balance....

The video below is used also on several other pages.  You will see the same videos on different pages because when Grace was discussing one feature, she would usually expand and talk about other features in the same videos.  In this video, she's talking about the balance of the head and the body.  She begins by discussing the balance of the head in regards to the position of the eyes, nose and ears.  Then, she discusses the size of the head in relation to the rest of the body.

The following page was included in the 2016 CFA Breed Presentation to summarize points for the head.
